About the funding programme
The Export Initiative Environmental Protection aims to meet the global demand for German know-how, products and services in the green tech field. The funding programme works to facilitate the export of German environmental technologies and innovations.
Innovations in environmental protection and resource efficiency offer significant potential for decreasing the burden on the environment while offering opportunities for sustainable economic development. As a result, environmental technologies and innovations are increasingly becoming drivers for prosperity worldwide.
The Export Initiative Environmental Protection (EXI) aims to meet the global demand for German know-how, products and services in the green tech field. Launched in 2016 by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), this funding programme aims to ‘export’ the technological know-how available in Germany. Support is offered to sustainable development activities worldwide, with the promotion of applied technologies and unified environmental standards, improvements to living conditions and the foundations laid for the successful application of ‘GreenTech – Made in Germany’.
The aim is for technologies to be used sustainability and for local social conditions to be considered as part of their rollout. Grants are available for project proposals that seek to benefit the environment, the economy and society in equal measure.
Seven key action areas in the Export Initiative Environmental Protection
Above all, EXI focuses on knowledge and technology transfer within the fields of expertise of the Federal Ministry for the Environment. These include:
- Water and waste water management
- Waste/raw materials management, circular economy, resource efficiency
- Environmental management and sustainable consumption
- Environmentally friendly personal transport solutions
- Sustainable urban and regional development
- Green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
- Innovative cross-sectional technologies
